A rest home providing hospital care, with specialist fire protection, access and usability requirements.
The 39 Batkin Road building was designed as a rest home providing hospital care. It required a higher level of fire protection than standard building types, including fire alarms, smoke detectors, sprinklers, fire doors and fire-resistant coatings.
Specialist design requirements also included personnel lifts, dumbwaiters, broadcasting systems, corridor balustrades, sensors and call bells for 40 rooms. ORIENT CONSTRUCTION was the main contractor and was responsible for ensuring project details were delivered to a high standard.
